The Gulf was a wonder today, calm and clear. In the morning large schools of brown cownose rays flitted in the shallows and small surf. In the afternoon, five West Indian manatees swam past. The manatee were heading west at a nice clip in about 6 to 8 feet of water. I took a paddle board out and rode with them for awhile. Unlike the rays, the manatee had no fear of the board. There was a calf among them.
